GANG INTERVENTION - WARD 8
Rev. Dr. J. Talbert, Executive Director of Reintegrating Alternatives Personal Program and Pastor of Faith Tabernacle of Prayer, along with other stakeholders in government, community and faith-based agencies in the Ward 8 community of the District of Columbia, are working together to stem the tide of gang violence and ensure public safety by: 1/holding strategic meetings with gang leaders to bring about conflict resolution; 2/providing services that lead to productive lifestyles, i.e., employment opportunities and educational enhancements; 3/mentoring to provide positive role models and enhancing self-esteem.
Anchorman Craig Melvin of NBC News, Channel 4, interviews Trayon White, Darnell Weeks and Wanda Jackson about unemployment in the Ward 8 district which has the highest unemployment rate in DC. Trayon works very closely with Rev. Talbert each week with inner city youth. Other community stakeholders include the Office of Councilmember Barry, ministers, ANC commissioners, community leaders, employers, Ward 8 residents, Metropolitan Police Department, and other community and faith-based organizations.
